A Close Up On Avian Influenza, 22nd April, TJC Auditorium
Thanks to energetic canvassing for the event, more than 40 TJ students turned up for the seminar, ‘A Close up on Avian Influenza’, along with a host of other participants from all walks of life. It was a good seminar, with Dr. Thaweesak Songserm and Assistant Prof. Alongkorn Amonsin both sharing on how their country, Thailand, coped with the onset of Bird Flu. It was sobering and enlightening. Suddenly the suffering animals and their owners became real and not just so many statistics. It was not all heavy; particularly charming were the passports for chicken and ducks certifying that they were free of disease! Finally Dr. Cutter then went on to talk about the preparations Singapore has made should the disease ever reach our shores.
Indeed it was an extremely informative seminar, enhanced by the sumptuous punctuation that was the accompanying tea break and the opportunity to go up close to ask questions of the presenters. It was so informative that I’m sure most of you are dying to hear about the content shared. Is Bird Flu really as deadly as it is made out to be? Will eating infected birds even give you the virus? How has the Government prepared the country for it? All the answers to these questions, and more, will be in the flu… oops… full report- to come.
As such, stay tuned to this space for our very own Close Up on Avian Influenza! Because we know that you want to know. Will Ya Kun's famous soft boiled eggs give us the dreaded bird flu…?
